Stonehenge!!!

We went to the American Stonehenge just a little over two weeks after Maya was born! The sun had miraculously shown up, so we hopped into our car and headed up river!

Here is Maya with dad chillin in the center of the henge!

A nice moment captured with dad and his new baby girl!

It was so nice to be outside and walking about but I had to take it really slow.
It was really fun to see how Stonehenge must have looked when it was first built!
It was surrounded by SO much beauty! There were farms to the East, Huge river to the South, Fields and railroads to the West and gigantic windmills to the North!

We have learned that we need to take small breaks...here Maya is getting her diaper changed and drinking a little milk afterwards....

...Small break in pictures of Stonehenge...

This next few pictures were taken on our way to Stonehenge. Like I said before we have learned with a new little one that you need to take little mini breaks, Maya needs to stretch out sometimes and get a break from the car seat, change a diaper, drink a little milk. So we pulled off to this rest stop along the Gorge at a place called Starvation creek...not very promising sounding but what we found was SOOO much cooler than we could have imagined! Yeah for the little detours!

We walked not fifty yards and found this unbelievably beautiful waterfall and creek! The sound of the water was so soothing Maya never did wake up! She was just a warm little bundle in our arms!

Daddy and Maya with the creek behind them! The color contrasts were stunning!!!

She is just so little!!!!

Laguna was there too! Here he caught sight of a dog across the creek!

This is the waterfall that turned into the creek...

I loved the sound, I wanted to curl up with my baby girl and take a nap too!

This area was so beautiful!

...back to Stonehenge....

Pictures of the windmills! So pretty!

This picture got mixed down but it was really supposed to be up higher with the rest stop area....this is not a supped up or photoshopped picture! Larry took this at the rest stop about a hundred yards from the creek, with his iphone camera! It was an amazingly gorgeous spot! Talk about the best rest stop EVER!

So let me tell you a little about the American Stonehenge...

It is located in Washington State just across the river from Oregon....
They were built by a guy named Sam Hill as in "where in the samhill are we." He was a quaker and wanted to build a town he called Maryhill after his wife...but it didn't work out, the town did not thrive...

However he did build this monument to the WWI men who died as a memorial to them...the real Stonehenge had just been "discovered" and they thought originally it was a place of human sacrifices...
So he built the monument in testament to the "God of War" who was still taking "human sacrifices." It really is a cool area! The names of the men are etched into a few large stones inside the circle. Another cool fun fact is if this stonehenge had been built just 30 miles South it would have actually served the "real" stonehenge purpose of a "sundial" type of monument.

Anyways! we had a LOT of fun! it was just nice to get out in the SUN which we haven't seen much this past winter/spring here in Oregon! The scenery was as amazing as this monolith stones all on their sides placed upright in homage to the fallen men of WWI!
